A hotel that has aged like a fine wine
On McMinnville's charming, old main street, Hotel Oregon strikes an inviting pose -- as it has since 1905. Once home to a restaurant and lounge, banquet hall, Greyhound bus depot, Western Union, soda fountain and beauty parlor, the handsome four-story building we call Hotel Oregon is a delightful destination in the heart of Oregon's wine country that seamlessly blends modern amenities and whimsical features with the building's rich historic character.
The hotel has always had a home-like quality about it. Early on it was a place where locals and travelers gathered for a well cooked meal made with ingredients raised on the proprietor's farm. Today, the hotel has the air of a comfy weekend getaway -- plush and elegant, yet homey and comfortable, with an easy, engaging air about it. Warm lighting in the first floor pub, cozy tables and an impressive 40-foot long back bar invite close conversation over the glint of a fresh pint. Two impressive, handcrafted pool tables in the Paragon Room beckon billiard buffs and pool sharks alike. Artwork, photographs and architectural wall hangings inspire thoughts of the past and a trip to the subterranean bistro-style Cellar Bar or magnificent Rooftop Bar (with its breathtaking 360-degree view of the region) are a must for any visitor to the hotel.
Hotel Oregon's 42 European-style guestrooms upstairs bid immediate relaxation with luxurious chenille and pillow covered beds, plenty of reading lamps, and antique armoires perfect for holding weekend wear. Guests can select from rooms featuring private baths, or shared baths, or those with conveniently located common bathrooms. The hotel's innermost rooms afford a view of the courtyard while the outer rooms look out over McMinnville's quaint downtown neighborhood.
Today, as before, Hotel Oregon is the place to come for an overnight stay near the vineyards, a stopover on the way to the coast, or a company retreat set amidst the charming backdrop of McMinnville's historic downtown. It also offers a unique venue for weddings and receptions.
